About the Trillium Drug Program

If you have high prescription-drug costs compared to your household income, you might qualify for the Trillium Drug Program.

The Trillium Drug Program is funded by the Government of Ontario. It allows individuals without insurance coverage to get help with high prescription-drug costs. You must qualify for the Trillium Drug Program.

Getting Trillium coverage does not mean that your medications are free.

If you qualify for the Trillium Drug Program, you will be required to pay a deductible (based on your household income) to help offset the costs of your medications. Once you qualify, you and everyone in your household will be covered under the Trillium Drug Program. If you have a low income, your deductible will be very small.

Senior’s co-payment Program

Learn how you can have the Ontario Drug Benefit annual deductible waived and co-payment fees reduced to $2 by applying for the Seniors Co-Payment Program.

You should apply for the SCP if you have a valid Ontario Health card number, you are aged 65 years or older, and your annual net income is no more than either:

$25,000 if you are a single senior

$41,500 if you are a senior couple (combined household income)

Single senior with an income of $25,000 or less

If you’re a single senior, with a yearly income of $25,000 or less after deductions, you pay up to $2 for each prescription drug filled or refilled – and you do not have to pay a deductible.

A senior couple with a combined income of $41,500 or less

If you are a senior couple (where at least one person is aged 65 or older), with a combined yearly income of $41,500 or less after deductions, each senior over 65 years of age is eligible for benefits and pays up to $2 for each drug filled or refilled – and does not have to pay a deductible.

Only a spouse who is a senior receives drug benefits as a senior. A spouse who is under 65 years can apply to, or remain enrolled in, the Trillium Drug Program.

How to apply

To avoid unnecessary delays and ensure timely processing, complete the Seniors Co-Payment Program Application available on the Ontario Drug Benefit Program Online Applications and Forms website.
